Day 6: Les Journées Médiévales et Renaissance

The chateau hosted a medieval/renaissance festival this weekend, so of course we visited!
Battles were fought. 





Games were played. 



Lunch was eaten. 






We stayed local for the afternoon, creating a screen for the front window to keep the flies out and walking around town. 
Tomorrow, we’re looking forward to the market in the village, and planning to visit newly-discovered Roman ruins in nearby Perigeux.

Day 5: Brantôme and Bourdeilles

Friday is market day In Brantôme, so we spent the morning shopping and gathering supplies for dinner. We enjoyed lunch along the river and managed to take pictures of our food before devouring it.  In the afternoon we returned to Bourdeilles, and Charlotte met another cat.   I made a tomato  gâlette for dinner, and later on we wandered up to the new restaurant at the top of the hill for a digestif and some live music! Meanwhile, we’ve been washing the pile of textiles we discovered in the “new” house (abandoned since ~1965). Here’s one example (most are not so interesting!): Tomorrow, we’ll check out  Les journées Médiévales at the Chateau.

Day 3: Exploring Bourdeilles

We met our friend the orange cat on our walk this morning! We toured the chateau this morning. Charlotte is showing us just how big the fireplace is.  We got a great view from the tower (which I wasn’t able to climb when we were here in 2018!).  We spotted this fleur-de-Liz in the garden of the renaissance palace! Charlotte and Grandpa strike a pose on the wall overlooking the river.  A new art piece launched on the river today: Avant (before): Après (after): Dinner tonight was at the Saveurs Nocturnes (an evening market with local vendors serving food), including pizza and bread baked in the wood-fired oven.  Tomorrow, Lascaux!
